Physical Theatre Training

The Margolis Method expands the performer's expressive and creative capabilities. Reflecting over twenty five years of research by Kari Margolis and inspired by the work of such artists as Etienne Decroux, Jerzy Grotowski and Bertolt Brecht, the Method centers on the dramatic force and emotion that emanate from the actor's physicality, uniting instinct and intellectual analysis.

Actors are trained comprehensively, exploring the vital connections between physical and vocal expression. The universal principles of Margolis Method are applicable to any theatrical style or aesthetic, ranging from abstract experimental to linear text-based plays.

Through this rigorous method, performers broaden their expressive range and garner the skills that allow them to create meaningful original theater productions that place the performer at the center of the creative process.

In a demanding, yet supportive atmosphere, classes foster ensemble awareness and improvisational skills. Technique, theory and structured improvisation are incorporated with scene work and collaborative performance projects, creating the opportunity to assimilate the principles of the Margolis Method into one’s own professional working process.
