Margolis Brown Brings Its

Madcap, Multimedia Musical Adventure

IN SEARCH OF TONTO BLUE

to Tusten Thearer Stage June 25th and 26th

Narrowsburg NY—Margolis Brown brings its latest madcap adventure to the Tusten Theatre stage June 25th and 26th.. IN SEARCH OF TONTO BLUE is a musical, multimedia roller coaster ride into the inner sanctum of three mildly mad characters: the seemingly silent everyman Arthur A. Peterson, his wild superstar alter ego Tonto Blue, and the experimental theatre artist Tony Brown making a podcast to track the creation of his newest production.

A visually spectacular, physically dynamic, and absurdist look at life, IN SEARCH OF TONTO BLUE is the company’s first adventure into creating a surrealistic musical. Performances are Friday & Saturday, June 25 and 26 at 8pm at the Tusten Theatre, 210 Bridge Street, Narrowsburg NY.

With a busy schedule of touring and residencies nationally and in Europe, IN SEARCH OF TONTO BLUE will be the company’s first performance on its home turf since CYCLOPEDIA was presented in September 2008.

Award-winning theatre artists Kari Margolis and Tony Brown have been scheming on the production of IN SEARCH OF TONTO BLUE for several years, and see it as a somewhat sideways sequel to the company’s critically acclaimed AMERICAN SAFARI. Director Margolis has written the lyrics and designed the costumes and set; Brown is the featured performer, composer and multimedia artist. He is joined on stage by longtime company member Gregory G. Schott.

Margolis Brown’s original, ensemble theater productions combine an emotionally charged physicality with the unusual use of everyday objects, spectacular multimedia imagery, text, song and magic. Margolis and Brown first joined forces in 1975 in Paris, while studying theatre. After touring internationally they returned to the United States and formed their performance company and school in New York City in 1984. They relocated to Minneapolis in 1993 and have, since that time, created and produced ten full-length productions.

The company has also toured throughout the United States, Mexico and Canada, and to Barcelona, Berlin, London, and Singapore. Margolis was on faculty at the University of Minnesota’s Department of Theatre and Dance for several years and hundreds of actors in the Twin Cities have trained with her at the company’s private acting school. Since 2004, the team has been building an international summer training institute in the Catskill Mountain region of New York State, along the banks of the Delaware River.

Margolis Brown’s theatre works have been recognized with six fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, a New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship, a New York "Bessie" Performance Award, several Minnesota State Arts Board and McKnight Foundation Fellowships, a Creative Capital National Residency Fellowship, a Pew/TCG National Artist Fellowship and a Jerome Foundation Travel Fellowship among many other prestigious awards and fellowships.

Following the Minneapolis performances, IN SEARCH OF TONTO BLUE will tour to Atlanta, Narrowsburg NY, Baltimore and Kansas City.  Recent and upcoming residencies include the Kennedy Center, Viterbo University, Fort Lewis College, Millikin University, and the Professional Association of Actors and Directors in Barcelona.
