Faculty member Ian Bivins has been highlighted by Whatcom Talk for his work with the Bellingham Arts Academy for Youth (BAAY).

Of Ian's background, Whatcom Talk writes:

"Bivins brings a broad theater education background to BAAY that informs his teaching on a daily basis. Originally from Helena, Montana, Bivins earned a degree in Theatre and Dramatic Arts at Western Washington University. Much of Bivins’ experience before BAAY has been as an instructor of professional actors from around the globe, teaching Margolis Method workshops in Upstate New York, Barcelona and Bellingham to name just a few. “Most of my history is working with professional actors from diverse places, diverse backgrounds and cultures,” notes Bivins."

IAN BIVINS AND ANGELA KISER PRODUCE NEW WORK "UNDER THE TREE" AT THE iDiOM THEATRE

We're so excited to share the press release for Ian Bivins and Angela Kiser's latest creative project, "Under the Tree!"

iDiOM Theater and On the Precipice Productions take a look Under the Tree
BELLINGHAM, WA — iDiOM Theater presents the world premiere of an On the Precipice Production, Under the Tree, a dark and quirky theatrical exploration of holiday ritual, written by Angela Kiser and Ian Bivins:
Theatergoers are invited to join a cast of odd, yet familiar, characters in a disjointed world woven together with elements of physical theatre, puppetry, multimedia and educational exposition about the little-known roots of our seasonal shindig.

The show features 100%-polyester reindeer footy pajamas, history lessons from Santa’s second cousin once-removed, Xmas-rated tango, ring-ding-dingalin’, a fight about nothing, petulant children, and karaoke fever dreams.

Under the Tree features Bellingham artists Angela Kiser, Ian Bivins, and Kristopher Lopez as the main cast of characters, with live sound design by Brendan Richard LaBotz, multimedia by Julliette Machado of JM Works, and puppetry and sculptural work by Christian Anne Smith.

ERIK HOOVER, MINNEAPOLIS

ERIK HOOVER TO MAKE DIRECTORIAL DEBUT WITH THEATRE PRO RATA'S "THE WOODSMAN"

A former member of the Margolis-Brown Adaptor Company, Erik has trained and performed with Kari Margolis for many years and embarked on his path towards Margolis Method instructor certification two years ago and is currently student-teaching. He has performed with many Twin Cities theatre companies including Walking Shadow Theater Company, Pillsbury House Theater, Theatre Novi Most, Park Square Theater, Sandbox Theater, and the Red Eye Collaborative. Erik is also a founding member of FTF Works and produced and starred in their inaugural production, Herocycle, and he is hard at work collaborating with other company members on the next production: Bluebeard’s Dollhouse. Erik is excited to make his directorial debut this winter with Theatre Pro Rata’s production of The Woodsman.

IAN BIVINS & GREGORY SCHOTT PERFORM IN KUNTZ AND COMPANY'S ORIGINAL WORK "POSITIVE"

Gregory Schott was brought from New York City to collaborate and perform with Ian Bivins in the latest Kuntz and Company original production. Positive is a dance/theatre piece that explores the lives of five different local community members whose lives have been affected by HIV/AIDS. As is typical in Pam Kuntz’s work, the performances combine the talents of professional performers with the actual community members whose stories are being told. The evening includes the perspective of individuals living with HIV as well as family members who watched a loved one succumb to AIDS while surviving the social, economic and personal struggles that are a part of the disease. Using dance and theatre as the vehicle for delivering these stories, performers provide a revealing, sensory experience that makes public those things we don’t normally talk about.

Ian and Gregory are on faculty at Margolis Method Center Int'l and are teaching master classes at Western Washington University and the Firehouse Performing Arts Center while Gregory is in Bellingham. KYM LONGHI DEVELOPS NEW WORK "Blue/Doll/House/Beard" FOR REDEYE THEATRE'S WORKS IN PROGRESS 

Kym Longhi is directing and developing a new work with  MB ADAPTORS Founding Member Beth Brooks and Certifying Artist Erik Hoover for RedEye Theater's 2014 Works in Progress.  "Blue/Doll/House/Beard" will merge the "Bluebeard" fairytale with Ibsen's "Dollhouse" to create a theatrical dreamscape about gendering, the power of secrets, the relationship of marriage and violence, and the Jungian aspects of the individual's quest for wholeness and intimacy with the self.  Bluebeard's forbidden chamber filled with murdered wives will transform into a chamber of living dolls - a room of Noras  - each one masked in a doll's fixed visage, each one striving to either reconcile themselves to their mask or to escape. This non-linear murder-mystery will ask the question: Who killed all those Noras?
